Member Profile – Kathy Olberding

This month’s member profile is long time member, Kathy Olberding of KV #68. She grew up in Delhi and attended Oak Hills HS. Inspired by the nursing profession, she obtained her BS in Nursing at Mt. St. Joseph College (now University) and worked in case management with a specialty in Geriatrics. She later went back and taught classes in community nursing.

She was married, had two daughters (Angela and Sarah) and after some job transfers, she, and the girls relocated back to Western Hills. Once a Westsider -always a Westsider! Kathy was very involved in her girls’ school PTO and enjoyed being a Girl Scout Leader. She is currently married to Marty, and they are celebrating 20 years together. Like many couples they are the happy grandparents of 3 grandsons, and one recently adopted granddaughter. Life and family ties keep Kathy busy and fulfilled.

Her introduction to the Kindervelt #68 group came through meeting Pat Wahl who lived in the same neighborhood. Pat invited Kathy to come to a meeting and she found herself becoming very involved with KV#68. There were two groups in the Western Cincinnati area and #68 was the smaller of the two groups. But one of the busiest! Kathy took on many positions over the years. In her group she has been both President and Treasurer. For City Board of Trustees, Kathy volunteered as West Region Leadership Chair, 2 years as Project Chair, and 2 years as Vice-President under Bonnie Hueneman. She has currently revised her stint as West Region Leadership Chair. When thinking about her volunteer activities, she really considers herself a great worker bee – always willing to step in and help with all the many projects and events that KV #68 put together.

Their next big project is –Tee Off for the Kids– a spring Golf event fund raiser at Aston Oaks Golf Club on May 6th. Diana Peters and Bonnie Hueneman are co-Chairs. Kathy and hubby Marty will be there working one of the Hole Events! Check out Flyer for info!

When Kathy was President, she came up with our KV motto ”Raising Funds while having Fun.”

And yes, she has had lots of fun through her 29 years as a KV member. Her outside interests include traveling to vacation spots, gardening, attending estate auctions and auction sites and of course grandparenting.

A special quote that is framed and hanging on her wall was given to her by her best friend. It says, “Have Friends not for the sake of receiving but of giving.”

Thank you, Kathy for giving so much to Kindervelt. A friend indeed!
