I want to express my deep gratitude for everything that Kindervelt has done to help support the mental health needs of our community. Your investment in the Kindervelt Psychiatric Emergency Assessment Center (KV PEACe) continues to fuel some truly remarkable outcomes. You have touched the lives of so many and provided hope for a brighter future. I hope you’ll share my excitement over two significant achievements:
- The KV PEACe space has served over 2,100 patients since August. That is an amazing number! The KV PEACe space was instrumental as we provided the best possible care to every single one of those patients.
- Among patients who came to the Emergency Room with mental health concerns and were eligible to be moved to the KV PEACe space, over 95% ended up getting services in KV PEACe. That is a lot of great work by everyone involved to make this work operationally and get the patients who need the quieter space into KV PEACe.
I am sorry that I was personally unable to attend the annual meeting and be a part of the unveiling of all your hard work and dedication. But I celebrate your contributions, totaling $545,000 to support our patients!
I was pleased to hear that Dr. Shari Jefferies spoke about the needs of these patients, about the shortage of psychiatrists to serve them, and about the opportunities that we at Cincinnati Children’s have to support the community.
We are proud of what we have accomplished. However, we continue to challenge ourselves to meet the needs of the patients and families struggling with mental illness. We will again end up with a 10+% increase in children coming to the emergency room for mental health reasons this year. So there is no slowing down for us. We are excited with multiple projects under way to help patients transition to the best care possible for them.
It is always such a pleasure to meet with those of you who are able to visit the medical center. Your dedication and generosity is an inspiration to our staff, and your work has led to direct benefits in care to children and families. Thank you!
I look forward to our continued partnership with Kindervelt. There’s no telling what we can accomplish together!
