General Kindervelt Questions
WHAT DOES KINDERVELT MEAN?
Kindervelt is German for “child’s
world”.
WHY IS THE KINDERVELT MOTTO “TO HAVE FUN
WHILE RAISING FUNDS”?
Kindervelt was formed so that
women getting together in neighborhood or common interest groups could have fun
while raising money for Cincinnati Children’s.
The amount of money raised is secondary to Kindervelt being a caring,
sharing and doing-for-others type of group.
Every contribution, whether small or large, is worthwhile and greatly
appreciated.
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF KINDERVELT IN THE
COMMUNITY?
Ours is mainly a role of public
relations. Our members and their
activities make people aware of Cincinnati Children’s and its vital role in the
community. In doing so, we project a
positive image for Cincinnati Children’s and promote goodwill.
HOW HAVE KINDERVELT GIFTS BEEN USED?
All of the funds raised by
Kindervelt support Cincinnati Children’s and help the medical center provide
world-class medical care, conduct life-saving research and provide professional
education.
In the early years, our gifts
were donated to the general fund and earmarked by medical center leadership for
items such as:
Equipment for the Department of
Radiology (1976-77)
Microscope for the Division of
Hemotology/Oncology (1978)
Equipment for the Intensive
Care-Coronary Care Unit (1979)
Establishment of the Division of
Infectious Diseases (1980-82)
In 1983, Kindervelt decided that
gifts could be used more effectively if pledged for areas of need, as
determined by medical center leadership. Since then, gifts have been used to
fund:
Cardiovascular Research Endowment
Fund (1983-87)
Professor of Pulmonary Medicine
(1988-90)
Construction of the Kindervelt
Trauma Center (1991-94)
Division of Critical Care
(1995-99)
Division of Adolescent Medicine
(1999-2004)
Division of Developmental and
Behavioral Pediatrics (2004-08)
Division of Asthma Research
(2008-2012)
WHAT IS THE ANNUAL MEETING?
In addition to sharing fellowship on a citywide basis and celebrating the culmination of another Kindervelt year, the Annual Meeting brings members together to elect the Kindervelt Board of Trustees, present awards, and give the organization’s annual gift to Cincinnati Children’s.
