Train Journey – World’s LARGEST Indoor Model Train Display
Nearly a hundred G-scale (large scale) trains are running everywhere, immersing visitors in a 25,000 square-foot environment. More than two miles of track take visitors on a panoramic journey through three distinct epochs in U.S. history, from the earliest days of steam-engine railroading up through today’s modern diesel locomotives.
Each train car – and there are over 1,600 of them! – is about the size of a loaf of bread!
All trains are large G-scale trains, 1/24th the size of the real thing.
Train tracks are bustling all around the visitor — below, at eye level and some even 11’ in the air.
The model train layout includes railroading’s Early Period (1830s through the Civil War to late 1890s), the Middle Period “Golden Age” (1900 to 1950s) and the Modern Period (1960s to the present). There are carefully hand-crafted cities, towns, saw mills and factories, forests, bridges, mountains, valleys, plateaus, intricate trestles, tunnels, trolley cars, and fast-traveling subway trains. A cascading 11’ waterfall provides a dramatic backdrop for the entire area; water flows through canals and rivers into a large lake.
World’s Largest Model Train Layout Built By Volunteers
Nearly 300,000 man-hours have been logged by volunteers to create the magic and historic authenticity of the 25,000 square foot model train layout. Everything in the layout is proportionate, created on a 1/24thscale
What do Tom Hanks, Oprah, Rod Stewart, Donald Sutherland, Whoopi Goldberg, Michael Jordan, and Bruce Springsteen have in common?
Model trains. That’s right, all of the above, according to the National Model Railroad Association, are train hobby enthusiasts. And you can add to this list august names from the past – Sir Winston Churchill, Joe DiMaggio, Walt Disney and Frank Sinatra, just to name a few.
They Did What?
Not long ago, a couple in San Diego heard about the world’s largest indoor model train display in far away Cincinnati and they really wanted to see it. So, they boarded a plane in San Diego, flew to Cincinnati, visited EnterTRAINment Junction for several hours, then flew back to San Diego!
